Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to cooperate in the field of nuclear energy
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are discussing cooperation on the peaceful use of nuclear energy. On Wednesday, February 5, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by the Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliev, Uzbek mass media reported.
During the meeting, a detailed information was conveyed on the realization of the APS construction project in Uzbekistan, the implementation of the state nuclear energy program in general and the creation of nuclear infrastructure, as well as on the implementation of international legal instruments in the field of nuclear safety.
It was reported that in accordance with international standards and requirements of the IAEA, public consultations are expected to be held in Uzbekistan and neighboring countries in the near future on environmental impact evaluation of activities, related to the placement of facilities and operation of the Uzbek APS.
The Kazakh side positively assessed the measures, taken by Uzbekistan in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and offered to work closely on this line in future. Following the results of the meeting, it was reached an agreement to work together in this direction.
