Turkmenistan and Iran strengthen cooperation in the gas sector

Turkmenistan is expanding its presence in the regional gas market. As a result of negotiations held on July 1-3 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and Iran signed a contract for the supply of Turkmen gas to Iraq. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports this.

According to the agreements reached, Turkmenistan will annually supply up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas to Iraq through Iran under the SWAP scheme. This agreement was the result of many years of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran in the gas industry.

To ensure supplies, it is planned to expand the gas transportation infrastructure. Iranian companies will build a new gas pipeline with a length of 125 kilometers and three gas compressor stations on the territory of Turkmenistan.

In addition, the parties agreed to increase the volume of gas supplied to Iran to 40 billion cubic meters per year. This will be achieved by expanding capacity in the Dovletabad – Serakhs – Hangeran directions and through the Chaloyuk gas measuring station.
