Shahym Abdrakhmanov was born on October 28, 1963 in Yagtyyol village administration of the Garagum district of Mary province. He has higher education. In 1986 he graduated from the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mining geological engineering. He began his career in the Annau settlement as a geologist of the district engineering-technology service of Oil Exploration expedition of the Management of Geology (later renamed the production association “Turkmengeology”). In 1987-989 he became an assistant to the driller in the same expedition. Since 1989 he worked as a geologist, since 1992 till 1993 - Head of the geological department of the Eastern expedition of deep drilling for oil and gas of the Production Association “ Turkmengeology “. 1993-2003 - Chief Geologist of the Farap Management of exploration drilling of the trust “Lebapdrillgas”, since 2003 - Chief Geologist of the Ymam-baba expedition of oil and gas exploration of the trust “Turkmen Oil and Gas Exploration” of the State Concern “Turkmengeology”,and since 2005 - Chief Geologist of Management of the oil and gas production “Yashyldepe”. Since March 1 till April 27, 2006 – the chief geologist of “Lebapneftegazrazvedka” department, from April 27, 2006 till June 3, 2014 – the head of the same department, from June 3, 2014 till March 1, 2017 – the head of “Maryneftegazrazvedka” department of the State Corporation “Turkmengeology”. On March 2, 2017, by the decree of the President of Turkmenistan, Shahym Abdrahmanov was appointed as the Chairman of the State Corporation “Turkmengeology”. In July 2020, by the decree of the President of Turkmenistan, Shahym Abdrahmanov was appointed as the new rector of the International University of Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan.
