Head of the International Methane Emissions Observatory
Manfredi Caltagirone leads the UN Environment Programme’s data-driven efforts to accelerate methane mitigation as Head of UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory. As Head of IMEO, Mr. Caltagirone guides the initiative’s mission to provide open, reliable, and actionable data to those with the agency to reduce emissions – supported by a team of over 50 scientists, data analysts, industry practitioners, and other experts. Previously, he worked to establish and operationalize the Climate Technology Centre and Network under the UNFCCC and served as a policy advisor on climate technologies at the Italian Ministry for Environment. He has held research fellowships at the United Nations Foundation and the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University. Mr. Caltagirone studied law at the Il University of Rome and holds a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
