Dr. D. Nathan Meehan is President of Gaffney, Cline & Associates and served as the 2016 President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Previously he was President of CMG Petroleum Consulting; Vice President of Engineering for Occidental Oil & Gas; and General Manager, Exploration & Production Services for Union Pacific Resources. Dr. Meehan holds a BSc in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University. With more than 42 years experience, he served as Chairman of the Board of the CMG Reservoir Simulation Foundation and twice as a Director of the Computer Modelling Group, Ltd., as Director of Vanyoganeft Oil Company, Nizhnyvartosk, Russia, as Director of Pinnacle Technologies, Inc., as a Director of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and as a Director of JOA Oil & Gas BV. He is an SPE Distinguished and Life Member and the recipient of SPE’s Lester C. Uren Award for Distinguished Achievement in Petroleum Engineering, the Degolyer Distinguished Service Medal and the SPE Public Service Award. He received the World Oil Lifetime Achievement Award. He serves on the boards of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Strategic Energy Institute and the Penn State and University of Texas and University of Oklahoma petroleum engineering departments. He has authored scores of technical articles and three books on petroleum engineering topics. He is an appointed member of the National Petroleum Council and the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission. Dr. Meehan is a licensed professional engineer in four states.
