Deputy Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Baigaziev announced that an agreement had been reached with Turkmenistan on the supply of electricity in the 2023-2024 season, negotiations on the cost of purchases continue, Tazabek reports. According to the official, agreements have also been reached on the import of electricity from Russia, but Turkmenistan will remain the largest supplier of this resource to the republic. Kyrgyzstan generates most of its energy through hydroelectric power plants, but water levels in local reservoirs are declining, resulting in reduced electricity generation. Thus, in the Toktogul reservoir this year there was less water by 1.97 million cubic meters. Turkmenistan began exporting electricity to the Kyrgyz Republic several years ago. Since then, the country has remained the largest supplier of this resource in the Kyrgyz market.
