On September 1, a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in the Chinese city of Tianjin. In the afternoon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the summit organized in the SCO+ format as an honorary guest and delivered a substantive speech.
As noted in the report, the regular summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the SCO+ format was attended by heads of state and government of more than 20 countries, as well as heads of 10 international organizations. In accordance with the approved agenda, the meeting participants discussed issues of expanding multilateral cooperation in priority areas and further improving the activities of the SCO.
In his speech, the head of state emphasized that our country has great respect for the SCO and closely and kindly follows its activities. At the same time, the creative role of the Shanghai Organization in continental and global processes, its great contribution to the establishment of a fair and balanced system of the modern world order was noted. The President noted that the determining vector of relations between Turkmenistan and the SCO is the economic sphere, identifying transport and logistics, communications, energy, trade, and industrial cooperation among the priorities. As for the transport sector, projects in this area are capable of creating favorable conditions for the formation of a single geo-economic space from the Pacific Ocean to the Baltic, covering such large and dynamically developing economic zones as the Asia-Pacific region, Central and South Asia, Russia, the Near and Middle East. In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that it would be logical and justified to establish closer practical cooperation with the participation of Turkmenistan and the SCO, coordinate transport strategies based on an understanding of joint objective advantages, mutual benefit and successful integration into the global geo-economy. Having emphasized the important role of the Caspian Sea crossings, the head of state recalled that the importance of the Caspian as the shortest and most advantageous route was discussed at the recent Third UN Conference for Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza.
The President of Turkmenistan also noted that many countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have significant industrial capacities and extensive experience in shipbuilding, and put forward an initiative to establish cooperation in this area.
Turkmenistan is also ready to continue effective cooperation with the SCO member states in such areas as communications, energy, industrial cooperation, and the cultural and humanitarian sphere. In particular, this concerns the implementation of new large-scale projects in the field of communications, increasing the routes and volumes of natural gas and electricity supplies to the organization's member states. In addition, the head of state expressed support for the global governance initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the current SCO+ summit.
The visit of the President of Turkmenistan to China continues.
