Turkmenistan citizens account for 90 percent of «PETRONAS» local workforce
«PETRONAS» has summarized the results of its efforts in developing national human resources in Turkmenistan. Currently, citizens of Turkmenistan account for approximately 90 percent of the company’s workforce in the country. According to the company, over the past 30 years, more than 1,000 Turkmen specialists have been engaged in various fields, becoming a successful example of strengthening local workforce capacity. In addition, with the company’s support, 188 Turkmen students studied at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, while 235 specialists completed professional training at the INSTEP technical training center. This was reported by an online newspaper «Turkmenistan: Golden age». Within the framework of cooperation that began with the signing of the Production Sharing Agreement for the Block-I project in 1996, «PETRONAS» has participated not only in geological exploration and hydrocarbon production activities in Turkmenistan’s sector of the Caspian Sea, but also in the development of an integrated production infrastructure, including offshore platforms, pipeline systems, a coastal gas terminal and the gas processing plant in Kiyanly. The company continues to actively develop areas such as digital technology implementation, production efficiency improvement, workforce training and knowledge transfer. In addition, «PETRONAS» actively participates in educational and social initiatives in Turkmenistan. The company supports educational institutions, organizes training programs in English, mathematics, information technologies and STEM fields, implements the «Water for Life» project, and contributes to public initiatives focused on coastal clean-up and tree planting. These initiatives are aimed not only at expanding production capabilities in the oil and gas sector but also at developing human capital. The 30-year experience of «PETRONAS» in Turkmenistan and its achievements in developing national specialists will be presented in detail at the 31st International Conference and Exhibition «Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2026», to be held in Ashgabat on 21–23 October.
