Turkmenistan and World Bank Discuss Activating International Trans-Caspian Transport

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met in Ashgabat on Friday with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani, World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Tatiana Proskuryakova, and IFC Regional Director for Central Asia and Türkiye Vibke Schloemer. During the conversation, they focused on activating international Trans-Caspian transport and maximizing the effective use of existing potential in this field.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized the importance of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, which plays a key role in connecting Europe and Asia, with significant potential for expanding transit capacities, Turkmenistan’s official media reported.

The parties also discussed the future prospects of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the World Bank, including participation in projects aimed at developing transport corridors, such as North-South and East-West.

The National Leader expressed confidence in the productive continuation of mutually beneficial cooperation, which supports the implementation of the country's economic development strategy.

At the end of the meeting, participants exchanged well wishes and confirmed their readiness for further successful collaboration.
